Shaklee Distributor in Dallas, Dallas Health Helpers, asks, “Is your pet overweight?”  “Too??”

Weight, weight. Don’t tell me!!

Do you know that 50% of all dogs in this country are overweight?  We are soothing and rewarding our pets with food. We also do this with our children and ourselves!!

If you think that a 50% rate is bad, get a load of this: 67% of adults in America are overweight and half of those are obese. These are not good statistics.

Most of us have been on diet in our lives.  And most of us have been on several diets in our lifetimes.  The problem is that most diets don’t work.  What does work is a lifestyle change.

The good news is that we have a lifestyle plan that has been clinically proven to change the weight loss to come from fat, instead of the typical weight loss coming from muscles.  Weight loss from muscle is not a good thing.

Check out our weight reduction plan at http://CinchPlan.com/HealthHelpers . We offer at FIT205 Studio, weight management support meetings two times a week-Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 9 a.m.   Come and join us.  For more information call Tim at 214   770   9596.

Shaklee Distributor In Dallas talks about the aging process and what can be done to slow it down.

We all want to live a nice long life with vitality and flexibility a part of the aging process.  With the explosion of health technology, we Americans are living longer than before.  In 1950 there were 14 million people aged 80 and above.  That number rose to 102 million in 2009.  And as time goes by, the number of individuals who live to be 100 years old or more continues to increase.  People in this age group are increasingly more engaged, alert fully active members of society.

How does one get to be 80 or more years of age with relatively few disabilities?  What does science tell us that we can do to live longer, healthier lives?

Lifestyle choices play a big part in our longevity.  Experts suggest that only 30% of our lifespan is determined by genetic makeup and 70% is determined by good lifestyle choices.   The major determinants here are one’s activity levels, whether or not he smokes, his alcohol consumption, and whether he is at a healthy weight or not.
Most Americans die from complications associated with  chronic diseases, not an infectious disease or acute illness, which was so years ago.  The CDC reports that 50% of older adults suffer from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes.  These put one at risk for coronary heart disease.  These risks can be greatly reduced by simply making modest lifestyle changes.

The goal is to live longer with a high quality of life of good energy and good health. The earlier one adopts healthier lifestyle behaviors the better.  One of the big factors that contributes to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease is being overweight and more so, being obese.
Keeping physically active, getting plenty of rest and eating right are key components of living a longer, healthier life.  Getting one’s weight in a desirable range with a body mass index of 25 or less is of utmost importance.
With a plethora of diets on the market, it is difficult to find the right one.  On a “typical” diet, when 12 pounds are lost, 5 of those pounds are muscle mass. This is not a desirable aspect because muscle burns calories simply by being muscle.  So loosing weight from muscle mass is counter productive.
One weight management plan that has been proven to maintain 100% of muscle mass while loosing weight from fat is the Cinch program.  If you’d like to know more about Cinch post a comment on this article.
Keep your muscle and loose the fat in order to maintain a good healthy lifestyle now and for your future.

Uptown Dallas Nutritionist writes about diabetes, its effects and actions to take.

Diabetes affects more than 10% of the American adult population.  Some statistics say 13%, with 40% of them not even knowing they have diabetes.  An estimated 57 million more have prediabetes, putting them at a high risk of developing full blown diabetes.  Just as with many medical conditions, early testing  is the key to controlling this difficult condition.

Many aspects of the body and its functions are effected by diabetes.

  • The brain is effected often by depression, causing normal living functions to be difficult.
  • The eyes are often a toll taken by diabetes because of high glucose levels and high blood pressure that can damage tiny blood vessels causing vision loss and even blindness.
  • The heart is a target with diabetics who are twice as likely to develop heart disease or stroke than non-diabetics.  These conditions seem to occur at younger ages than in other people.
  • The stomach is often damaged in that nerves designed to help control digestion are impacted.  Food remaining in the stomach longer than it should-gastroparesis-causes heartburn, bloating, nausea and vomiting.
  • Digestion, bowel and bladder functions as well as urinary tract infections are also a result of nerve damage caused by diabetes.
  • Kidney failure, 44% of it, is brought on by diabetes, sometimes taking years of slow decline to be noticeable.  This can lead to the need for dialysis or a kidney transplant to treat it.
  • Sexual response is lessened by diabetes and 35 to 50 per cent of diabetic men experience erectile dysfunction.
  • Legs become weak and painful due to, once again, nerve damage.
  • Hands and feet in diabetic individuals, 60 to 70%, become weak, painful and loose sensation, causing open sores, ulcers, and infections that the patient may not even be aware of having.

Some important, generalized steps to take right now include:

  1. Regular blood glucose checkups can establish a pattern of your levels, which should normally be between 70 and 100.
  2. A healthy diet and regular exercise are key to avoiding diabetes.
  3. Be aware of your family history and take extra precautions if there is evidence of this in your family.
  4. Maintenance of a healthy body weight is also very key.  Be certain your Body Mass Index is within the desired level.

Eating a low-glucose diet is very important.  Healthy eating is not only low calorie eating. Look at the foods you are using to fuel your body.  Check the glycemic index of your foods.   One weight reduction program that concentrates on maintaining muscle mass and low glycemic foods is available online.  Click here to learn more.
